New impact in today

I just recieved my new impact in the mail today Ingersoll rand 2135QT. This is the quietest air tool I've ever heard. Now to put it to some use.

Think CP 734 Get a really old one that has been rebuilt.

I got to use one of those for over a year. While it is a 1.05lbs less in weight, I would also look at the CP7750. It has more torque in reverse.

IR 2131QT. Taking out an axle has never been eaiser (or quieter). My liitle IR 3/8 impact is pretty awesome too. Louder than the 2131QT, but not as bad as my other cheaper impacts.

For those that are still shopping, I second the suggestion of the CP 7750. I recently submitted an article about tools that should be out soon. Here it is in my private web space:

http://home.pacbell.net/mzimmers/tools/

I didn't do any real hard testing, but I'm quite favorably impressed with all aspects of the tool.

Checked out your page, very well done! You almost sold me a new CP. Why don't you put the prices on there with a buy now box? Also it would be nice if the tool was shown next to a dollar bill or a measuring tape to illustrate the size a little better.

Heh...not a bad idea; I could always use a little side income.

Yeah; I've done that in some of my articles where the size of something was clearly important; I didn't think to do it here. Suffice it to say that the 7750 is quite compact, given its power. It's a little "blockier" than the tool it replaced, but is virtually of the same dimensions...and MUCH stronger.

I just bought a IR 2135TI to replace my CP 734H a few weeks ago for work. The CP was adequate for most jobs until I had a rusty subframe bolt to remove and it failed to budge it. Had to use my bosses 17 year old worn out IR to bust it loose. I did consider the CP-7750 but the IR weighed under 4 lbs, and was a bit less bulky. So far everything I have thrown at it, it just yawns, super smooth and even though it's not the QTI it still is much quieter than the CP 734H, now I just need a IR 2115TI and I will be happy.

I purchased a slightly used CP (can't remember model) from a wheel and tire changing supply shop on a "end of year shelf sale" for $55. I compared it with a new one of the same model and it matches in output tq. It may be heavy compared with new guns today but then it's not used every day.

I picked mine up for $125 brand new. Too good of a price to pass up, IMO.

I found one thing when I was in a hurry, used 175' of air hose instead of "digging out compressor" from the garage, long hose made it work like on 40 psi. Compressor with 30' of 3/8" hose, look out i'm going to snap things off time.

Yeah, when I was writing the tools article, I was fortunate enough to spend quite a bit of phone time with a senior product manager at CP. He told me all the things that can impact air flow in a line, like universal swivels, quick disconnects adapters. On his suggestion, I tossed all my normal 1/4" connections and replaced them with the Hi-Flo. It's still 1/4", but the difference in the air flow is remarkable.

Lots of things we can do to make the tools run better...

You guys are right Airflow is very improtant, I work on my 74 in a portable garage about 100ft from my garage and compressor. I split two ways from the compressor, in my garage I use 1/4", but I use 100ft of 1/2" hose to work on my 74. I tell you... what a difference.
