I bought a left over 2005 F150 with a single cd radio. I found a factory 6 cd player that was previously installed in a truck. When I installed it I got an initilizing message, the unit seemed to go through some kind of an internal check (motor runs, rack goes up and down and head seeks). When it didn't work I took the top off to watch. When I try to load CD's I get an error message. Is there some kind of a code that needs to be entered for anit-theft or did I get a broken radio?

My Helms Manual reflects that the audio unit can be subject to a "speaker walk-around test and audio unit self-diagnostic mode" inspection and verification. This is done with a Automotive Meter, 73III. The test reflected in the Helms is quite lengthy leading me to believe there is a need to touch with a Dealer to have the Automotive Meter brought into use.
you got a broken radio-if the cd changer is not locked prior to shipment it will most likely suffer damage-they are very fragile. i got 2 units off ebay and had to return them due to this-i ended up buying a new unit from ford.btw to lock the unit push scan and 1 buttons together and it will display a locked message (do with unit powered up) when reinstalled it will unlock automatically.
