Talking Barrett-Jackson

Haven't seen it mentioned here, but is anyone watching the Barrett-Jackson car auction that's live from Scottsdale, Az. this week on Speedvision. Runs through Sunday. Man, I'm addicted.

I watched for a little while last night. Saw the Fury they kept saying eorge Jetson would've liked. And I saw the 1991 Z28 with the 78 total miles on it go for $40grand. Wish I'd seen more. maybe I'll get a chance tonight after the scout meeting.

Is it just me or is there an excessive amount of "collector" ford cars & trucks for auction there that have chevy engines in them?? What's up with that? A month or so ago on ESPN I noticed that BJ was auctioning off a beautiful old ford F1 with a 350 in it. That should be illeagal.
Just wondering....

I would never put a Chevy motor in a Ford, and dislike customizing per se; but I think this is the U.S.A., and that if you own it you should be allowed to do whatever you want to it. Did notice one of the commentators on Barrett-Jackson who kept saying only a Ford motor should be in a Ford, only a Chevy motor should be in a Chevy, etc.

Yea, I saw the Boss 302 and said, that would be awesome to own someday, then I saw it sell for over $70,000. So much for that dream

> ford cars & trucks for auction there that have chevy engines in them??

Yea, I saw the auction for that Mercury with the Chevy engine and the commentator said something like "they could have at least put a Ford engine in there". The combo did not impress him at all.

I don't know, I was expecting and hoping to see at least one cherry high-boy on the block.

People put chevy motors in fords because they spent so much money restoring the car, they didn't have enough for a good motor. hehehe.

A 91 Camaro for 40000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think that story belongs on that thread, "and these are the people that vote" And it took at least two guys that needed eye wear.

$40,000, that's nothing. I was watching B.J a couple of weeks ago and they had a new unofficial Shelby GT500 sell for $500,000. My jaw hit the floor because I thought,"anything with that man's name on it must be golden". So next week I'm selling my Shelby F-250. Starting bids will be $55,000........any takers?

Well you can probably thank BJ for probably never being able to afford one again. Trying to find old cars and restore them are becoming harder and harder because of BJ. Most of those cars aren't worth the price tag to someone who is actually going to use them to "drive," actually they aren't worth the price tag anyways. To me it's just a place were rich people can flex their finacial muscles to the rest of the world. Even Mopar Magazine was complaining awhile back that BJ was driving the cost of Mopars so high the real enthusiast couldn't even afford to own them. I remember people telling me that back in the day Mopars wasn't worth much of anything and in the 70's you couldn't give a SuperBird away. All Im saying is wait til they get tired of million dollar Mopars and start on our Fords. People like me who love to restore old cars are really going to have a hard time finding cars.

I got a Shelby 3-speed 18" bike I'll throw in with it. A set like that oughta bring in at least $500K.

Not sure Fords, or your standard Fords will meet that million dollars that Mopars are going for. Lets face it, 289 Hipos and 351W Mustangs were a dime a dozen in their day. There were so many that even today, if you look, you can find a decent one for under 5000. Now, a Mopar car with a Hemi, or a 440, if they weren't converted to drag cars, the owners probably blew them sky high years ago. They didn't make that many in the inital offerings anyway.

As for BJ driving up the costs of antique cars, I'm not so sure its that bad. After all they did have the, "discount days" the first couple of days on air. You could get a sharp "driver" car for under 20g's. The high prices only go for numbers matching, all original, documented automobiles.

Barrett-Jackson does a great job of promoting themselves, and advertising upcoming vehicles. That brings out everyone that ever dreamed of owning a 1958 Edsel station wagon, and they'll pay goofy money to get one (sorry, but $40k for an Edsel wagon IS goofy money...). That's a fluke, as it really doesn't reflect what goes on in the day-to-day, real-world market. A Corvair rampside pickup brought $29,000 the other night, and I can assure you that NO ONE has ever paid that for a Corvair truck, especially one that was customized like that. B-J also employs people that are very effective in getting the price pumped up, of "stirring the pot" and getting people to pay more than they should, in the heat of the chase. It's one place you'll never see me buying a vehicle. Now, when the time comes to SELL something, that's a different story...

If you have ever done a chevy 350 swap, or even worked on one before, youd see why alot of guys put them in their rides. Easy to find, cheap to build, and brainless to work on.

Yes, but dime a dozen cars don't last forever and have you noticed the price that clones are bringing now a days. Numbers matching cars will eventually be non existant about like it is now. I guess discount days were alright for people who wants a model thats already put together, but were is the fun in that As far as big block Chrysler's I think most of them have gone to those stupid clone cars you see at the car show. Im walking around needing a numbers matching 69' 440 I can't get one within a resonable price

A numbers matching 440, you don't want much do you?

My dream car, and I will get this dream, is a 67 Mustang convertible. Not original, but a restomod, with a 302 FI and a 5 speed. I'll tinker on the body as long as its 70% good. Thats my DREAM car. My dad used to have a 67, but he sold it to raise me. I always rag him for doing it, I understand why though, but when I was 16, I really hated him for it.

I've got a 96-97 really Mustang, and I love my car, but if I had to sell it, I would for my son. I really want to keep it, and maybe let him have it when he turns 16. I just wonder if a car like that will be viable 14 years from now. We'll see.
