Good information. Potential users should be aware these tools are not a panacea for the quick disconnect coupling. I bought two (one like this and a genuine Ford one) and neither performed as well as I expected. I fully expected to just slide the tool over the coupling window and give a tug and off it would come. In reality, it still required considerable up/down twisting with one hand while using the tool with the other hand.
That tool does work though, and it was faster than if I used my dremel to take them off...
the key to using it, is once you are in the nitch, you push the tool toward the firewall, and with the other hand, yank on the hose...
I didn't replace the heater core when I did mine (knock on wood, it will still be ok for a while!)
The fun part of the whole job was clicking the new ones back on... nothing could be easier! No leaks, and a perfect connection, just like OEM
I actually ended up keeping the tool, because out of about 3 Autozones in the area, ONE store had it, and this was their only one... worth the 12 bucks I paid for it... esp if I ever need to use it again.
One word of advice... if you are re-using the same hose, and you only needed to remove them for replacing the core, get a couple or 3 of the white/clear clippys from ford... and the o rings as new too... (I think they come with them) I ended up distroying one of them, when I took it off the nipple of the core... but I was replacing the hoses anyways, so it didn't matter...
