I was replacing the O-rings and caps on my fuel return system and first thing I found is that my #1 injector pump to injector fuel line is broken. Should I be concerned about the others? Its an '86 F350 Crewcab dually w/ 6.9IDI, C6 w/ DNE Aux trans (disabled- wires cooked away). The Odometer reads 008300, how many times over is anyone's guess; while the last owner used for a 'ranch truck' the ones before him did alot of pulling horse trailers. I wonder should I pull and inspect the injectors or maybe have them cleaned just to be safe?
It never hurts to have the injectors pop tested. They check the opening pressure and spray pattern when this is done. I just had all mine checked and repaired 4 that were not spraying right and two that were slobbering fuel non stop.
Engine runs much better with more power now.
I spent 287 dollars to do all that. Money well spent.
I had one injector line get a pin hole in it while I was on a road trip . Had to drive it about 50 miles with it shooting diesel all under the hood . Kept a fire extinguisher in my lap..lol.
My ip rebuilder says the lines can fail due to the engine vibration .
I have seen a flexible line that you can use in case of emergency , I plan on buying one and keeping it in my truck to get me home next time .
Thanks for the input guys. I got under the hood a little bit this evening. I wanted to put in the new line and see where the copper washers that came with my seal kit went. Turns out they are the bottom seal of my blackened, crud covered injectors. (at least I tend to be a quick learner) I brushed the funk off the sides of 'em and cleaned the tips w/ carb cleaner and a tooth brush. What's the best way to clean the port inside the block? I wiped #s 1, 3, 5 & 7 with a clean rag on a long screwdriver and got a lot of soot from the bottom of the whole, I'm afraid of plugging a hole doing it though.
