4x4 Module Problems?? A little help, please-
My 2002 Explorer will almost always "chatter" or the wheels will de-synchronize if I do a tight turn- like a 180 on a street. I took it to the dealer, and they claimed that it was the 4 wheel drive module, it's over $600 to fix, and my extended warranty doesn't cover it. I told them to do no further work, button it back up, and I'll take it home.
Has anyone else had a a similar problem or issue? Thanks!

Have you checked your tire pressures and wear. Since it uses speed differential between the front and rear to determine when to engage the 4wd, a difference in tire diameter will cause it to do this. I've noticed that on my '03, if I turn tight and move quick the 4wd will sometimes engage, it's due to the speed difference. What does it do if you're on a slick surface and the rear wheels spin? If it engages and stays in properly, I'd suspect that your module is OK.

Thanks for the reply! The tires are brand new and at proper pressure, so that's probably not an issue. However- you've got me thinking- to try this 180 maneuver on both wet and dry pavement, and in Auto and 4x4 (high) mode, and see what happens.
