I want to install a shift kit and checked out both Sonnax and Transgo. Sonnax seems to focus more on the modulator valve (includes Tri-springs) and Transgo seems to focus more on the springs (includes one piston valve). Any thoughts og one over the other?
I recently installed the Sonnax and it shifts much quicker. Not hard, just quicker. It doesn't slip into the next gear. It is a very easy install. I haven't towed anything since the install but I can only see it helping the life of my tranny. I know nothing about the Transgo.
I have the sonnax/tricum in mine and its the best thing I have ever done. I have read very good things about the tugger kits also, there is also the Greg Evans FTVB to consider, its way more costly but what I have heard an excellent setup. I dont think you can wrong either way, but for price $50 shipped from Blackcloud, and pretty simple install, I would vote for the Sonnax/tricum.
I just wanted to ask what is the part number from Sonnax for this. I saw this on Powerglide.com and didnt know if it was the same thing. It did note on this application not to use with a diesel.

Kwik, don't you have the Transgo in your rig? What made you decide over the Sonnax?
I have a six speed stick shift. If I had an Auto, I would go with the Transgo or Factory Tech.
Too many stories here on FTE where a marginal transmission was pushed over the edge with a Sonnax. I need to add to that, however that there are far more Sonnax kits installed than the others. The others may just as well have pushed the worn out tranny's out of commission as well.
So am I to assume that sonnax really doesnt want there valve used in a diesel or is there a different valve that is used with the diesel's. I have seen part number 36424-01K listed but that part number does not come up on sonnax's.
Here is what is listed on powerglide.com which is linked to sonnax's web site.
Note: This part may require the PCM being recalibrated.
Warning! Extreme High Performance Only!
This valve will dramitcally increase shift firmness. This is not recommended for the diesel applications.
i LOVE the way my tranny shifts with the sonnax... i'm sure the other kit is really good too... i don't know which one is better... i would imagine they are both worth doing... all i can say is do tons of research, then go with your gut instincts..
