Found out the problem
Well when I bought my 54 back in Aug05 the trans would slip out of 2nd which I thought would be normal for being so old. So I disassembled the tranny this weekend and found that the 2nd gear teeth were worn bad. Found a replacement at sacramento vintage, but they want $140. I had an extra tranny that came with the truck but and that 2nd gear was in good shape but it larger in dia then the one I need to replace. So I guess it will have to cash in my penny collection to come up with the $$$.LOL!

Try Half Ton Fun in New Jersey, 732-928-9421. I got a second gear from them for my '51 for around $20. Same for the reverse idler gear. They may have them for your rig too. They don't advertise much but they've got a lot of stuff.

I second the recommendation of Half Ton Fun. Very good source for tranny parts and just about anything else. He was the only vendor with the brake pedal bushings I spent six months looking for. I had resorted to buying a bushing blank to make my own when I stumbled across Bob on eBay. He had won a cluster gear I was interested in.
