clockspring, stalk or ?????

Here is a good one. On my '92 3.0, I just noticed that the interval is not working on the wipers but constant and fast speeds are OK. The cruise does not work also. The front windshield washer is not functioning. Signals work fine. To top it off, if you shut the truck off, the wiper will work just once upon startup from any of the non-functioning interval settings. What do you guys think?

I have a 95 3.0 shorty with some of the same problems,my flash dont work, washer pump, cruise, horn,I havent had it for very long so I may find more things wrong in the future.I will keep looking for fixes and posting if I can.Does your horn work? If not it could be clockspring, but also more things could be wrong in other aeras.

First things first. Have you guys checked your fuses? Mine are good but that was the first place I checked for problems. Maybe you just have a blown fuse.

Roree, Does you horn work? Do you get an air bag light? Cruise usually does not work because the Clock Spring is worn out (common problem on Aero.) I think that your Wiper problem is different, there is a module under the dash that control intermiten wipping and Fords are notorious for those going (I have had to replace it on every Ford I have owned.)

As for the washer fluid not working, I would jumper 12v over to the washer pump in the tank and see if it works. If not, then it is the pump, if it does, then your Stalk could be the cause of both the intervel problem and washer problem.

K what the heck is the clock spring??
It is a device in the steering wheel that keeps electrical contact of the horn, cruise, and Air bag, with the rest of the vehicle while still being able to turn the wheel.

Duncoo you might want to start another thread, and include everything about your Aero, (Year, Millage, engine, tranny) and we can work from there.

Yendor when you say your flash does not work do you mean Hi Beams?

When I say flash I mean when you pull the turn signal back towards the steering wheel all of the lights are suppose to come on and flash the on coming cars so they dim there lights. Can you tell me which and were the horn and cruise relay are located on my 95 3.0, I tried the ford cd thing and its like there is no way to install it.

Yendor, Are you able to turn on the brights full time with the stalk?

To run the ford CD you need to unzip and burn it to a CD first and install the program from the CD.

The Cruise module is on the cruise mechanism right next to the battery. But like I said, it is probably clock spring sense I have never heard of/seen a horn or cruise relay blow.

I am not quite sure where the horn relay is, I believe it is under the dash.

yes the brights work when you turn them on with the dimmer switch and they stay on bright untill you switch it back.About the clockspring I have replaced it with a new one from ford still no go.I also do not get any bad signal or signals from the air bag.

I would like to here more on this (module)under the dash.
Ihave a VERYsimilar problem to ROREE'S,
fuses good and wipers work great but only on lo-hi no intermittent
unless you use your turn signal,OR turn a corner then they work great
for one(1)swipe.
But everything else works fine(lights gauges horn etc.

complete intermittent wiper troubleshooting and schematic listed in EVTM of Ford Service cd..failure can be in wiper module, combination stalk switch or wiring...troubleshooting is cheaper than guessing and throwing away good parts

download and burn cd from .zip .iso file in Ford truck section for your year from>

I think I got you here 96-4wdr, it has to be the clock spring it went on my van and caused all the problems roree has discribed, I took one from a 1991 rolled expolder that I have sitting in my yard and now every thing works OK.

cbr,

i was trying to respond to zsu's ? but didn't make it clear by quoting him trying to save bandwidth costs for FTE and i was tired.
zsu's question was no intermittent wiper function...he didn't indicate any thru the clockspring circuits problems

thread getting overloaded, 3 guys with questions about somewhat overlapping problems

Before replacing the Stalk, module, or anything else, try this (sense it is the same stalk on the Tauri)

http://www.shotimes.com/php-bin/modu...hold=0&sid=120

As for Zsu issue with brights, I would try spraying some electrical contact cleaner in the mechanism, dirt might be preventing contact between the contacts.
