gota 87 fi50 and i wana swap in a solid front axel. i was woundering if i have to convert to front leafs or if you can use the coils and radius arms. and if you can what year trucks have that type of configuration in them if they exist
No problem. I am planning to do the swap on my 95 in March. I am quite worried about how it will turn out though. Most people use the Dana 44 strait axel with coil springs. I assume they are all also useing the drag ling and track bar and all of that from the same truck. I think I am going to try to use 95 the 92-96 coil buckest with the dual shock setup. I do not know for sure that they will work but thats my plan so far. Once I buy my axcel I will have a better idea.
Im assuming the Bronco and F-150 are all the same parts. Arnt the coil buckets taller in those years. Im not sure how to decide which ones to use or how tall of springs to use.
The Dana 44 on coil springs is a good choice because you can use the stock coil buckets on your frame now. The whole axle with radius arms from the pre 1980 F150/Bronco fits under the TTB trucks like it was designed to go there right from the start.
One piece of advice, if you have the option to do so, look for a donor truck that has the NP203 full time transfercase. They all have a CV joint on the front driveshaft and the pinion angle is set on the axle accordingly. If you are going to have any lift at all, that axle is much better because you can get a CV driveshaft made for the front of your truck which will work much better than a standard driveshaft and have more travel.
