Winter Driving
means I have hauled asphalt and paved during a nice sunny day, and
called out by the town to snow plow by night. Thats new england weather.
My first line truck being a 54 F800 because it tows a new 20t Eager Beaver
trailer being aired up for a Frisk hyway plow with the air piston. What we
do here is soak it with diesel fuel pump sprayer real good. Don't be
afraid this truck and the others have been soaked this way since new. My
father bought it new. I mean I dump it over the fenders down the doors,
behind the seat filling up the cab corners. Smells a little bit till you get
used to it butt----my frame and sheet metal is mint. An old saying he
used to say "soap and water will clean anything, but a dirty mouth!"
End of story is when you get done plowing its impossible to wash the
truck with a frozen garden hose. Then my father I think invented this
idea He got one of those glass jar garden sprayers and mixed baking
soda in it and sprayed or soaked the trucks. You could here this stuff
fizzing therefore neutalizing the salt. Try that it won't hurt it. This has
been done since I was a kid and our trucks survived. Around here when
these trucks were already 4 or 5 years old, I remember headlights already
falling out tops of the fender totally gone with all the salt gathering under
fenders. Never would happen if owners soaked them with fuel oil.
try it. sam
Take some pics of the beast and set up a gallery so we can all check it out.
Welcome to the board
