Hello, I am a cheapo and a "gotta have it done now person" and I want to slap in a posi into my pickup. Now that part is all fine for me, but I dont like the rear seal deal. Is there any way I can pull the axles without needing to have the axles sent away and re-sealed? The rear does have basically all new seals on it, so if I can get around doing it again id really like to know how. Thanks,
Mike
Mike the axle seals are only a couple of bucks. You can try reusing them. If it is leaking it'll only take 30-40 min and the couple of bucks to get going again. :-)

Mike
Not on the 9", Pull the wheel, and the hub.and there are 4 bolts that you get to through the hole, by rotating it. When you slide the axle out the seal is in the recessed circle area in front of you. You pretty much have to ruin it to get it out, but like I said a couple-three bucks and you are back in business.

Not all 9" axles have the seals and bearings like John describes, mine has the seal attached to the bearing, and the bearing is pressed onto the axle shaft with a retainer, which I was told should not be reused. So Yes, if your axle is setup this way, and your seals need to be replaced you will need new seals and bearing. Cost me $120 for parts and labor to have the new bearing installed. If your seals do not tear, and look OK, I would reinstall the axles first, and see if they leak.
I was starting to wonder there, I was out staring at my axles tryin to figure out how on earth i was gonna get the seals off around the bearing....I havent had this truck apart yet so I dont know how the rears set-up. Maybe I shouldnt even bother yet though. I guess ill figure sumtin out. Thanx for the info.
