Welcome to the site. Sounds like there is a lot of history behind your truck. Do a search for the Aerostar IFS, it has come up numerous times. I have a Chevy motor in my 48 and for a warning, you will get heckled for this. Don't worry about it though, its all in good fun (Just be sure not to brag about it and what not). Good luck with your truck and welcome to the darkside.
Welcome to the site. I'll play nice. Post up some pics in your gallery so we can all see her. I think its really cool when a vehicle has a family history. I just recently bought mine (no history ), but I want to do the aerostar IFS. Mostly because of the cost though.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I enjoy teasing hotrod. There are several around with "other brand" engines, but I don't bother them. Just him.
Hi hotrod!
There are quite a few threads about the Aerostar. I will link one where the members have nice galleries with pics.
Welcome to the site Cal. I too just recently aquired My Dads 55 that he bought back in 1969 when I was 5 years old. Going to leave the straight axle front end and just get a drop axle. Running a 292 Y Block and a Ford-a-matic trans for now. But plan on putting the original 3 on the tree back in it. Looks like we kind of neighbors, I live in Ontario over by the airport. Good luck, and keep posting in here.
welcome to the site.i have a 53 that my grandfather bought in 1958,it was passed on to my father down to me nothing like a family truck with history.i am using ford running gears in my 53,take some time and think about using ford running gear keep it all ford it will appreciate better.i am currently trying to figure out this picture posting thing, maybe i will have pictures of my project posted in a couple hours.good luck on your project.
Cal,
Welcome to the board!! It looks like you have a fine starting point. I think its great that you have a truck with a rich family history. These old trucks are always great but it adds just that much more when they have some family history to go along with them.
I might as well heckle you about the chevy engine too.... ...pull that boat anchor out of there and stuff in a real engine, 500ci Caddy power!!!!
Just kidding, we're glad to have you on the board.
Bobby
Cal,
Looks like a nice project you have. And as others have said, the family history makes it all the more special. Some will give you a hard time about your engine, but not me. My first effie had a 327/350 combo and I sure wish I had that one back.
I don't have any opinion on the Aerostar, but I know there are some guys on here that have done it. I'm sure they'll be along shortly to add their 2 cents.
Good Luck and let's see some more pics when you get a chance!
