ok, hi, i have a 2003 FX4 F-150. i have checked the cv joints, solid, and when jacked up, the awd is too, but when i put it in 4x4 on the road, it will ratchet sometimes b4 engaging, and sometime when i let off the gas, a friend told me something about a vaccum line...? what is up here? and where would this be? the ford dealer said there are no vaccum lines for the 4x4 on an 03.......
help please!
Well I can tell you now that the dealership that told you there are no vaccum lines of a '03 are full of it. I have a '03 and I've had vaccum lines comes off so I know for a fact that they are there.....vacuum is what activates the 4x4. Do some searches on here for "vaccum lines" and other 4x4 issues, they can tell you how to find them easier then I probably can. My "03 is at the dealership now 4x4 shift motor put in it.
IF it's only a vaccum problem, that's the easiest one to fix. In my case I just had a line come loose, some people find cracks in the lines and they have to replace them, which would still be a super cheap fix...good luck!
well i hope that is what it is, bc i washed under the hood (first mistake) because when i took on the task of changin the plugs, i saw mud, then this started happening. and being a 16 yr old, i cant afford a big bill. (long story on how i got this truck, NOT just handed to me)
got 'er fixed today, totally surprised me with what it was. it was a heavy duty shield for the exhaust that got punched up against the drive shaft up front for 4x4!
