I have a 78 3/4 ton 4x4 it seems to make alot of noise when decellerating, everything that I can find out say's that it's the pinion bearing? Are these difficult to change? I have fixed most everything else on trucks but never inside the rear end.

I have the same truck with the same problem (I think so anyway, I am also getting some metal shavings in the gear oil besides the decelleration noise). I looked into having the rearend re-built and I can't find a shop in a 30 mile radius that will even touch it. I've been told by about 5 people that I would be better off to take my chances with a used one from a junk yard (which is gonna run me around $350).

with a 3/4 ton you should have the dana 60. they are very common and are still used today on new trucks. I don't know why you cant find a shop to work on it for you if you cant do it yourself. Keep looking there has got to be someone that can do the work for you.

The Dana 60's are very common. This may be against the site guide lines. But this man can re-build any rear end. Wisemans 4WD and Performance in Creal Springs,IL. He's very good. I'm lucky. He's only 2 blocks from the house.He and his son are very reputable. You can e-mail more for more contact info.
