Hey Fordslug, I had the same problem on my 72 F 100. I had a dead short in the high beam wire that runs past the battery box.Over the years vibration caused the insulator to wear thru at the battery box, so every time I turned on the high beams they cut out emediatley. I found the problem after much searching and reinsulated the wire then cut a length of plastic line lengthwise and forced it over the wire at the point where it wore thru. That was about 11 years ago and the lights still work fine.Good Luck, hope this helps.
