solid front axle?
). ok now the bad part...i am going to yank the motor out and swap in a Perkins T6.354 diesel engine. now you may not be familiar w/ this engine, thats ok i guess, it it out of a massey ferguson 760 combine and it is turbo charged. i already have the motor and it awaits to be planted in the truck, only i have a few obsticles. first, i have that junky IFS front end. i need a solid front axle to carry the weight and also so i can cut out the motor crossmember and make a new lower profile one. i am having a hard time locating a front axle. i need one w/ either 4.11 or 4.10 gears, and i also need front leaf springs for a powerstroke. can anyone tell me where i can find a front axle in indiana? i live in the southeast corner, but go to college in terre haute, so i have a little room to travel to find one. i am thinking i need a dana 60 front axle. the problem is that every junkyard i go to, there are not too many 4x4's and when i find one it is always a 1/2 ton truck. i need one for a 3/4 that had a diesel or one for a 1 ton that is 4x4. any help??????? thanks!
Terre Haute? Do you go to Rose Hulman?
The older F-250s (sometimes Dana 44, sometimes Dana 60) and F-350s, 1979 and under, came with straight axles. The thing to do is find a rust bucket plow truck with a shot body and motor and snap it up for $1000 or less. You find them on E-Bay easy enough and the auto trader magazines.
I saw a Dana 60 in GA in the Atlanta Advertiser for $300. Unfortunately, I did not have the money to snap it up. Sure is a rare bird in this state.
