most of the oil and "crap" down below the turbo (mainly around the orange intake boots) is from the boots seeping oil out of them. this comes from the closed-circuit crankcase vent system, which vents the oil mist into the air intake, and this in turn coats the entire intake system with an oily residue. it seems as if the oil likes to permeate it's way through the boots and then when dust hits the oil, it just sticks. when i did my CCV mod, i took the whole intake system off (minus intercooler) and i cleaned all the connections/boots/pipes etc. made it alot nicer. until that happens, simplegreen and a nice hosing will wash away the junk.
