Is there something that can go wrong with a c4 transmission that could cause vibrations in gear? Have a '73 rebuilt 300, good compression, everything related to engine has been checked at least 3 times, runs excellent in park or nuetral, drives well, has good power for 6 cylinder. But in drive or reverse under 8-10 mph it sends vibrations throughout the whole truck. Could this be caused by the tranny or torque converter? Oh yeah trannny is rebuilt too, but like I said everything related to the engine is new and has been checked at least 3 times.
New Flywheel and Damper also.
how about motor and tranny mounts?? i knew a guy with a 78 shortbed super cab with the same motor that had the same vibrations, but he lost it before we could figure it out....the torque convertor spins all the time so i wouldnt think it would be that, but ive been wrong before...i would look at the mounts before i did any tranny work....
I REALLY doubt that it is the transmission that is causing your problems. I would check the mounts on everything as already mentioned and I would check that you have good u-joints/center bearing before I laid a wrench on it and started a wild goose chase. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to make sure you don't have a separated tire somewhere on the truck because they can cause this too. It is even possible that you have a bent wheel, or severely out of balance wheels and tires. If these all check out fine, then I would take a really close look at the driveline balance and runout. If this just started and you haven't wheeled you truck or slid it off the road into the ditch the driveline is likely to be fine. Automatic transmissions normally don't cause a vibration like the one you say you have. Check the easy stuff first.
Has new motor mounts and tranny mounts, Yes, getting technical it's a flexplate.
Ignition timing as well as everyting else with the engine has been triple checked.
T.R. Bauer, It is in drive while stopped or below 8 mph, it goes away at cruising speed so I don't see how wheels could cause vibration, at speed however that would make sense.
More particularly I'm worried about the torque converter, the tranny guy said I could re-use the one from the 240, but I get a different part listing for the 300?
