more starter questions
have not posted in a while. i have a 90 EB (big V8). my starter is clicking when i turn the key. i have the haynes manual, but i wanted to ask a couple of questions.
1. where does the starter relay connect to the distributor cap? Is that just the connection to the starter relay itself, or is there another place?
2. is there an easier way to tell what is wrong than taking a voltmeter to the relay with the dist. connection removed?
3. could the relay just be bad, what is the quickest way to tell?
Thanks for any advice on fixing this starter / relay.

I just got through diagnosing some starting issues, and I must say that the voltmeter is the way to go. 1st thing I would check is your common ground down on the frame and make sure that you have a good clean ground point. Then I would check that you have 12v DC to the pos. side of your solonoid, then check the negative side of the solonoid and make sure you Don't have 12v DC there. If you do then your solonoid is no good. A really quick and not really recommended way to check your solonoid is to cross the pos. and Neg sides of the solonoid using two heavy duty screwdrivers. If it turns over the starter this way and not with the key, your solonoid is probably bad.
Hope this helps
Good luck
