I think the ps pump on my 78 is getting ready to go, if it hasn't gone already. I heard this loud rattling the other night coming from it. My dad told me that when the bearings go the pump will eventually lock up. MY question is, can I just put a shorter belt on and by-pass the ps pump until I can get a new one? Will running the truck without ps hurt any of the steering components? I'm heading out to Greensboro,NC from here which is about 3 hour drive. I don't want that darn thing to lock up on my half way there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
