My 79 f150 has warning lights instead of oil and alt guages. So I went to the junkyard and got a perfect 79 cluster with guages for 40 bucks I got home cleaned it all up and went to put it in and the harness plug in socket is too large for my trucks harness the guage cluster harness has like 2 or 4 more wires and it is about a 1/4 inch wider. I know that the guages wont work because the sending units are different I just hate looking down at the emptyness of the cluster I have after market guages so The cluster guages dont have to work in the cluster. Would it be insane to try and cut out a harness at the junkyard and splice it into mine harness. and is it possible to make the stock guages work while still having the after market guages work I like how the aftermarket ones are precise and would like the stock ones to work for the helluvit. Is the whole harness for the instrument panel removable without cutting it out. Also is there supposed to be a light for the gear indicator at night for an auto if so how do you put a new one in? take the steering wheel off? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
