I just got a '84 f150, great running, but on cold days
if it sits for to long it turns over, but doesn't start.
give it a shot of ether, and it'll start right up. any
help will be appreciated.
I would look at the choke first. Does it snap closed when you open the throttle? It should. If it doesn't, find out why. If it's an automatic choke, it is closed with a spring that is inside round housing on the passenger's side of the carb. If it's a manual choke, check to make sure it goes completely closed when you pull the cable.
Another possibility is the gas is draining out of the fuel bowl when it sits for awhile. Before you start it, look down the throat of the carb and push the throttle all the way open and see if you get two good streams of gas being shot into the bore. If you don't the fuel bowl may be empty.
Here is another tip. If it is an electric choke the key must be turned to the run position to actuate the choke. Turn key, smack gas peddal to floor, give it a half peddel shot of gas then turn key to start. Took me 2 months to learn how to start the GF's 79 bronco. I got to used to EFI.
