Ok sports fans, here we go again. My sons 97 Explorer w/ 5.0 has the ever popular Check Engine light on. The OBD-II scan shows EGR flow high. The Ford dealer said that the DPFE needed to be replaced, BUT, they then called back and said that this vehicle DID NOT have the DPFE and was the first one they had seen. Interestingly, they sold us the Explorer NEW in 1997. There are no delta pressure tubes on the exhaust pipe and absolutely NO DPFE valve anywhere.
The EGR valve has been replaced, then replaced again, along with the EGR valve position sensor.
The light does not come on right away, it takes anywhere from 3 to 20 miles of driving. The dealer wants an open ticket to diagnose and repair this vehicle!
i'm thinking your cats are messed up....maybe clogged? since it takes time for the CEL to come on, i'm thinking the cats maybe need to be warmed up for the problem to occur....
