I have an 83 F-150 with a 302 in it as a daily driver, the engine is not the greatset as it has 150,000 mi on it. I also have a '77 LTD I beleive the engine is a 351, I dont know of anybody around here that can tell me what size the motor is off the V.I.N. No one at the parts store here can tell me what siz the engine is with this method. I want to swap engines and pu the LTD engine in the truck, and I need to know how to find out what size the engine is and if someone can tell me that would be great, and if it would fit in place of the 302 in my truck
Are there no stickers left under the hood to tell what engine it is? How many bolts are on a valve cover? If you have a 351W it will swap right in to your truck with very minor mods. If its a 351M there is more work involved.
the 351m/400 was used in the fseries/bronco throughout the 70's and I think up until 81 or 82 - so if you got the mounts out of a donor, and other things it may go in easy
Just finished swapping a 400 into my 1980 F100 in place of the 6 cylinder. Took the mount towers out of another 80's truck that originally had a V8 and ordered mounts for an 80 F250 with a 400. Hardest part I ran into was finding the rear sump oilpan for it. Ended up buying it and the dipstick off eBay.........lol

I hate to split hairs but the 351M/400 was not introduced until 1977. Prior to that it would have been the 360/390 in the earlier 70's and mid to late 60's.
