99 explorer trans flush?

99 explorer trans flush?
99 explorer 4.0 v6 ohv, auto 4x4, i recently changed my atf, but dont think i did it right . i dropped the pan changed the filter, put the pan on and filled with mercron v but it only took 4 quarts, not the 10, that is says in the manual? how do i flush it? dose the transfercase take atf . could some one tell me how to do it right? also, my shifter dosent regester in park , it halfway between p and r and so on down the gears, but everything still works and shifts right ????? please help!!!

if you do the drain and fill you are right, you are only going to get about 4 quarts back in there. the manual tells you 10 quarts because thats what it takes to fill the transmission and related parts to recommended capacity from a dry stage. as in no oil was ever in the system. you are not flushing the system if you are just taking the pan off and draining the oil out that way. you wont ever get 10 quarts back in there. you have to completely drain the system to get anywhere near that figure...
