I have a 2003 F-350 Super Duty. I took it to the dealership because I heard a clunk in the front end when I ride over bumps. They replaced both upper and lower ball joints, both hubs, and sway bar end links. The clunk situation has improved but is not eliminated. The other day it was about 70 degrees outside and I didn't hear any clunking sound. The next morning it was in the thirties and the clunking sound returned. Any ideas???? My thought is the sway bar bushings or shocks. Will weather effect the performance of them?
SPARK, My son's 1999 SD had the "CLUNKS" too. Checked all the sway bar bushings and torqued all the bolts. Noise was still there. We then dropped the bar from the frame; drove truck and noise was gone. The solution in our case was to grind the surfaces of the frame and the mounting bracket (a build up of rust and corrotion of the coating on the frame apparently prevented a tight attachment) . Clunk is gone. Worth a shot.! Good luck.
