Fuel pump woes...
3-4 days later it dies and leaves me stranded some 70 miles from home on hwy. No matter what I did, it wouldn't start. I towed it home. Still no start. 2 days later, I go to diagnose a no start condition and it fires right up 1st turn of key.
The next day, it dies closer to home. Jump FP circuit according to Haynes and both pumps come on. It fires up as it should. According to haynes, it is either wiring from FP relay to EEC or EEC is bad.
FP relay has corrosion in connector/wire side and wiring looks horrible. Bko stays running when playing with wires.
I put in a new Bosch type relay as I couldn't get new pigtail for OEM relay today, nor do I like the OEM relay. Now, pumps run continuously in key on position. The pumps don't shut off like their supposed to after a couple of seconds. It's wired like so: 30 pin- Yellow/hot wire, 87 pin- Brown wire to Inertia switch, 86 pin-Red wire to EEC relay, 85 pin-Tan/Lt Green wire to ECM.
I've noticed when key is on and pumps running, I can pull Yellow and brown wire off and pumps continue to run like it's hot wired. I don't think it's supposed to be like that.
Questions: Do I have a bad relay? Did I wire relay wrong? Can my EEC relay effect FP relay? Is ECM bad?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have to drive 160 miles round trip starting Wednesday for school and I can't afford to be stranded in middle of no where. Thanks again.
