Hello everyone, 1st time here! f350 miss wired? HELP!
Hi, I just bought myself a work truck that needs some work. Its an 88 f350 7.3 deisel. First thing first, its been sitting for about 11\2 years. has all new glowplugs, relays, brand new starter installed by me today, all new brakes which will be my 2nd question. !st one is, I put the new starter in and as i connected the battery, it sent power to the starter, but not cranking it, i took the cables off immeditley, the guy before me put a new solinoid in which was hanging there, so after bolting it to the firewall, tried it again and does the same, either battery, did he hook the wires on the solinoid up wrong, sending switched power to the starter, i hope, please any info would be great, and if so, it didnt spin the motor, it wouldnt right? any thing else to do before cranking over this rig, i did the oil.thanks, Dan

See you on the boards. ….
start by checking for proper ground of the engine AND solinoid, clean all the connections and then test the ground by appling power from batt positive direct to starter wire that comes off solinoid, it should crank if it has ground.
You should have a ground from frame to engine or engine mount, I like to have a ground direct to the starter on mine.
Make sure the diesel doesn't have a 24v starter, that would change things, diesels are harder to crank and I think they might use a 24v starter.
Look for hack jobs on the wires, most owners do a poor job adding things on.
