Hi there, can any one help me here. The inside edge of both my front tires have worn right down to the canves in just 3 weeks after I changed the engine out, I pulled the engine out though the front of the van and did not touch anything on the suspension or steering (I think). I had an alignment done after putting new tires on and the tires started to wear again on the inside edge so I took it back to the alignment shop and complained they said the alignment was ok and that the front suspension was worn out, I dont think that this is so because it did not do this untill after I changed the engine out and the alignment shop did alter the alignment. What would cause the inside edge of the tires to wear? is it the caster angle camber or the tow in angle I am not sure and I have never had both tires to wear like this at the same time on any vehicle I have owned, could it be the front suspension is worn out? The van is a 1991 4.0 V6 extended.
was this a tire shop alignment or alignment done at shop specializing in front end work?
tire shops are notorious for low quality alignments, their main interest is selling tires, usually the same kids that mount the tires try to run the alignment machine
are front tires feathered across all of the face with sharp edges on outside edge of all rubber groove edges? too much toe out.
time for a front end specialist shop opinion unless you can find loose worn tie rod inner or outer ends, worn ball joints or worn suspension arm bushings.
you may have a claim against the "alignment shop" since they did do an alignment and at that time did not tell you that the "front end was worn out"....get a full written description from the front end shop for legal action.
hey thanks guys. I think I had better take it back to the alignment shop by the sound of it they have messed up and cost me $200 in tires, it was a major tire place, around here anyway, tires plus is the name I noticed that they had put in some new shims on the upper control arms, so what ever they did has really messed it up. Seems like you can't even trust a major tire store now to do a decent job.
