OK, I have made a couple posts about pops and squeakc comming from the drivers side front but I just noticed something. I had a Buddy stand on the nerf bar and turn the wheel from about 11 - 1 back and forth because I felt something popping and I wanted to see what it was. The only thing that didnt seem to look right was my Trac Bar Bushing at the top of the trac bar. It was moving side to side as the wheel was being turned back and forth, almost like the bushing wasent even there but it looks perfectly fine. Their is probaly 1/2 of an inch of play at that point. The other end dosent have anyplay at all. I have a 3.5" fabtech spring hanger kit with 35" BFG MT's. I have the adjustable, Fabtech Trac Bar. The only thing that I dont have is a dropped pitman arm and a dropped Trac Bar bracket. Actually, I have the dropped pitman arm but not the bracket, I cant seem to find the one made by Fabtech for sale by itself. DoYa'll think that with the installation of these 2 items my problem will go away? The angle of my Trac Bar and steering linkage couldnt be anymore even, the only thing is it could be about 4" lower, putting it alot more horizontal than it is now. What's Ya'lls opinion?
There should be no play in the trac-bar bushings. The reason for the drop bracket is to keep the axle centered in the truck, when lifted with the stock trac-bar the axle will be pulled to the driver's side.Since you have an adjustable bar,the drop bracket isn't needed.
Here is the deal though, A dropped pitman arm is needed. I keep going through center links (as ford calls them). With this being done, the steering linkage angle will be different from the trac bar angle so I think that the dropped trac bar bracket will be needed.
The angle of the drag link definately must match the trac bar angle or you will have problems with bump steer. Also rod ends would wear out even quicker. The more horizontal the drag link is the better it will be as long as the trac bar angle matches. I would install the drop arm and drop the trac bar to match it. It can only help.
