302 EFI throttle cable

My throttle cable kept getting jammed up, so I pulled of the black cap, and found that the plastic piece that slides over the cable was cracked, and would get hung up on the cable caesing. I dont see a way to get the plastic piece off the end of the throttle cable without breaking it.
Do I need a whole new throttle cable or what?

this is on a 86, EFI 302.

I believe those cable ends are molded onto the cable and I'm pretty sure they're not replaceable. Looks like you'll just have to bit the bullet and spring for a whole new cable.

If you don't mind running without cruise control, you can break off the plastic part and just leave the cable with the snap on ring on the end to attach to the throttle body. I've done this and aside from not having cruise control, it is fine. I did add a spring on the throttle body to make up for losing the spring on the end of the cable.
