changed fuel filter now problem

I changed my fuel filter and now I have a problem. Fuel is just shooting out the top of it. It had been driven around for 3 days fine. Then today it did it. I thought maybe the ring was placed in wrong. Fixed it and drove for about 20 miles and it did it again. Anyone ever have this problem

Must have gotten the seal in wrong. Or the cap is cracked.

Mine came with a triangle seal, and if i remember right, you want to put the seal on so that the the top triangle point of the seal is upwards and it sits on the flat base.

Last year about this time I had one that started a light leak after being on for quite a while. I loosened it and put it back thinking it was good. I drove it around a few days and then it produced a GUSHER of diesel. It was warming up out in the driveway, I came out and diesel was everywhere. I guess, my moral of the story or suggestion would be, get a new filter with o-ring. I later read that once those o-ring/seals get hot they expand/harden/change shape and will not work once you loosen or remove the cap.

I hope this helps. I ruined an alternator and it took me months to get the diesel smell out of my hood liner.

Check to see if you had pushed the filter all the way down in the housing. When I changed my 7.3L fuel filter the frist time I failed to make sure the filter was completely all the way down. When I replaced the cap and cranked her up to check for leaks I found 'em. LOL. I then took the cap off and pushed the filter down again. Replaced the cap and all was good.

Question - how did you ruin the alternator?
I replaced my fuel filter, and had this leaking cap problem. We didn't drive anywhere, but have been dinking around with the cap for the past day+. (Put cap on, turn key, yup, it leaked, remove cap, dink around with gasket, put cap on, yada, yada). The truck started fine yesterday. This morning it was leaking again...UGH!
I finally just bought a new cap from Napa ($16 w/ new gasket - cheaper than buying a whole new filter). Now it's not leaking, but the truck won't start. Fuel pump runs, battery indicator in the cab is on the low side (8), and the wipers tried to go when I turned the key (they weren't on)??? It's got that dead battery sound, but only does one turn and then I get the dead battery buzzzzzzzz..........
Any thoughts? Could I have ruined the alternator with the leaking cap, or do I just need a good charge on the batteries?
Thanks!!
