I registered my 65 last year after it was in Oregon for ten years. They required a vin verification and the guy never popped the hood even after I told him that the vin was on the frame, he went by the door tag. Yes I do live in CA. The part that kills me is that in Oregon My parents paid $15 for two years. In CA I pay $120.00 per year, it is a little extra for the personalized plates.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I guess the best way to make sure is to contact the WSDOT. Knowing how restrictive this state is, you probably need both titles and go thru some 3 yr retitle process while you provide every receipt for equipment used in the swap. And after that there will only be an additional $100 fee. ha ha! I think I am moving to GA!!!

You guys are the best!

I would just attach the vin tag from the old door to the new door. If you buy a used cab or door that is what you have to do, so just use the title for the frame.

Ga. has started this thing with "inspecting" a vehicle that is 10 years old or older. When I went to swap tags from my 80 F150 that I sold to put them on my 66, the lady asked if I was in the truck (which I wasn't since it was partially dismantled). I told her "no" and she says that I have to have it "inspected" before they can transfer my tag. I haven't done this yet, as I'm not very confident in their paperwork abilities. See, the truck had been stolen from my wife's grandfather in '02 and had 3 owners before it was noticed by someone in the DMV when the fourth owner tried to register it. Your tax dollars at work. Oh well, at least the truck is back home now. Unfortunately, her grandfather died before his truck was recovered, so I bought it from my father in law to restore it. No pressure on doing it right, huh?

Take it to another lady and see what she adivses. Should you be asked the question again, ask for a definition of.

I doubt you need to worry about it on a truck that old. I suspect when the numbers were punched in, the record came up stolen. mu guess

titles in kansas

if you try to register an out of state truck, i don't know about a car, the highway patrol will require you to find that frame number and clean it to their satisfaction until they can read the number and inspect the truck prior to your registering the truck in kansas. i have done this several times and i know the drill.

Jim, In North Carolina they will issue a tag to the title in your hand with no inspection. The title to my F100 truck is to the door tag. It begines with F25.
