Hi. My 2004 SD has just developed a problem with the radio. It just left the dealer's service dept. for some unrelated items, but I think it may be a coincidence. It is a Lariat and the radio is wired to turn itself off after the ignition is turned off and the door is opened, but it doesn't do that anymore. It stays on 24/7, unless I manually turn it off. Even the clock stays brightly lit 24/7. The dome light still works as designed, so I think the door switch is working properly. Any thoughts out there?
Also, I asked them to replace the battery in the door mounted pad used for entering the unlock code. They say it can't be done--it can only be replaced at a cost of $200 plus. Last night I checked the owners manual and it sez that the battery can be replaced and they tell you how and they give you the battery's part #. This morning I contacted the parts dept. and they say the part # is not valid. Any thoughts?
The door switch kicks off the accessory delay relay which is what kills power to the radio when the door is opened. There's a chance that they swapped your radio when it was in for service. It sounds like a radio problem rather than a truck problem.
As far as door pad problem, call a different dealer for the part number or call one of the Ford internet parts dealers like powerstrokeshop.com or ford-parts.com and get their input.
