I must confess, I'm an electrician/mechanic for janitorial machines so I'm a little emberrased. anyways, I bought the truck off my uncle to use for work, but it's having a few problems.
first, I couldn't turn on the lights. I traced the problem to the wiring harness plug for the light switch:
I went to the junkyard and replaced the switch and wires. the headlights and interior lights worked fine.
then I noticed that none of the turn signals worked. I replaced all the exterior bulbs and both turning signal relays. the turn lights work fine now, but once in a while they stop working and I get a "solid" left signal.
another problem was when I had the daytime-running lights on and stepped on the brakes it would light up the dash and corner lights. after a day of this it stopped but now the dash won't light up at all; even with the low-beams on but the corner lights come on.
thanks for the help, I don't want to dole out $200 for a mechanic to "fix" a disconnected wire or plug.
Check the light fixture grounds. Especially the left rear. Sounds like that one is bad & the brake lights are using the park light circuit as a ground source.
AL.
They usually come out of the harness and screw into the body. You might also want to make sure the little tang in the socket is hitting the brass part of the bulb good enough to make a good connection.
