Nothing but heat

This forum has been very informative, hopefully I can get some good info.

1997 B2300 Manual

My truck has A/C, which worked up until a couple of months ago. Now I get nothing but heat. I noticed this after my truck died and I had to get my mass air flow sensor replaced - but I realize that this may not be the ultimate cause. I have since moved thousands of miles away from the shop that performed the work so I can't take it back.

When the switch is turned to "off" I get heat. I notice it most coming out by the floor (it is warmer than just the air flowing in off the engine).

Changing from blue to red doesn't seem to have any effect.

Turning the fax on higher speeds makes it a lot hotter.

I don't think it is the blend door as max A/C still gives me heat.

There is plenty of refrigerant, and the A/C tubes get cold, I just don't get any A/C in the cabin.

In another post, I read somewhere about this potentially being the hot water control valve. Does this seem right? Is this a hard fix?

While I am not totally clueless, I am still very much a novice - so please explain in detail.

Sounds like a blend door issue; regardless of whether the A/C compresor is running and chilling the evaporator, you can still divert that chilled air and run it over the heater core. All air passing theough the HVAC system passes through the evaporator .

I believe you've narrowed it down to the two most likely suspects, but I agree with Billy, it sounds more like the common bend door problem, than the heater water control valve, for the reasons he outlined.

So I'd be inclined to look there first, for the problem. There is a fix for it outlined in a link, within the "Technical Thread", Ken has located atop this forum.

If it turns out to be the heater water control valve, it's location on the passengers side, under hood firewall area, makes it easy to get to & change out.
