ok so i put headers on my truck a few months ago, one of the best investments i mave made so far, the only problem is that the stock bolts were pretty bad and 2 of them broke inside the head, since i am wanting to have mt heads ported anyways, could i just take my truck to a machine shop and have them dismantle and port/polish/3 angle and remove the bolts then assemble everything or is this a project that i am going to have to do and then take them to the shop?? also in favor of cost issues should i just port and polish my intake or just save the cash and get a good aftermarket? i have heard that the edelbrock is just an aluminum replacementm, but that the weiand is pretty good....my truck still needs to pass the stupid california emmissions laws for a couple of years.....what do you all think??
I would stay with the stock castings, the Smog guy will NOT pass you visually with aftermarket heads.
Mave the machine shop go through them and no one will know on the outside

Port & polish is not cost effective usless you do all of the racer things (big cam and carb). I would put the larger CJ valves in the heads with that 3 angle valve job instead. Then when you don't have to worry about the emmissions you can add the manifold and carb.
