cold trans

I haave a 90 Areo 2wd 4.0, when it is cold, when you 1st start her up, it wants to hang in 1st gear. Once she is warmed up no problem. The trans was rebuilt about 90k ago along with the engine, van has 235000 miles on it. Looking for any ideas on this, Thanks, Allen

What is your fluid level, condition (color?)

When was the last time the fluid/filter was changed?

Fluid level good, color red, fluild and filter changed last summer.

Sounds like modulator problem to me. Check vacuum line. It might be a good idea to check the vacuum at the modulator itself with a vacuum gauge. The last time I had the same problem, the rubber hose was leaky. When that happens, the tranny won't shift out of first unless you get the speed up to about 30-35 mph and let go of the gas.
