I have a 86 Ford F-150, 5.0L, automatic. Recently, after letting the truck sit for 5 days I begin to experience a severe vibration when first starting to move forward and back. It feels like driving over a bad washboard road at the wrong speed. It does not do it at all until I start moving.
This goes away in about 30-40 yards once I start moving and doesn't do it again until it sits for a while.
This only started after it was sitting for a few days. It always does it first thing in the morning and most of the time in the afternoon while I'm at work. The temperatures here have been in the mid 40s to upper 60s.
Can anyone help me out here? Has anyone else ever had this problem?
Wild GUESS based upon reading from this website. I have never had this problem so can't speak from experience.
SOme of the trucks have this shudder due to inadequate lubrication on the slip joints at the output shaft of the tranny. I think most guys use a silicone grease, but do a search or hope for some expert answer. Alternatively I have head it could also be bad universal joint angle.
I lean to lack of lubrication since your truck may have a chance to "dry out" while sitting for several days.
Like I said a wild guess, hope there are some others going to answer.

Pull drive shaft and check joints for binding of loose joints
After posting the original question yesterday, I left work and it really started making a lot of noise without ever quitting. Turns out it was the center carrier bearing on the drive shaft.
