FYI Bolt Failure
Coming home from work yesterday in the rain I hit a big pothole with the front tire on my 71 F-100 4x4.I heard what I thought was a big rock wailing around in the wheel well.Right away the steering became very loose with a lot of steering wheel slop where it was very tight before.I pulled off the roadway and had My Son turn the steering wheel back and forth,I saw that the top bolt on the frame mounted track bar bracket had sheared off and the bottom bolt was very loose.I had already replaced the bottom bolt with a 5/8" bolt after that 7/16" bolt had sheared off,I replaced the top bolt with a 1/2" bolt as that was all I had.It was probably My fault it broke for not checking all the frame attachments after wheeling.Point being is the 7/16" bolts are not enough to keep things together if you put on bigger tires and wheel a lot.
