2003 explorer electronics stopped

I started my explorer last and noticed a number of electronics didn't turn on.
1) All guages don't work
2) Four wheel drive stopped
3) No interior lights
4) Automatic seats quite
5) No power windows
6) No radio
7) No ABS
8) No air bags

I'm sure there are other devices associated with this problem not working. Prior to last night I noticed on occassion there would be a delay in the gauges becoming active on start up.
Any thoughts?

Battery or Alternator

I would test the alternator and batter. If the alternator is not producing enough volts it will cause your gauges and other accesories not to work. Also same with battery

If the engine still cranked up, it's probably not the alternator or battery. First place to check for a cluster of problems like that would be the maxi fuses in the power distribution box under the hood. Check all the fuses and relays. I don't have a diagram for the 03 so I'm not sure where a common circuit would be.

I took the truck to the dealer and was told it is the instrument cluster.
One is on order and covered on warranty ( good thing $$$$)

Same thing happened to me. Dealer said it was the instrument cluster and it was going to cost me $600. They said they got it working but it needed to be replaced. I figured, if it works, why change it. It's been 3 months now an still ok. I think they were having a slow month?

Search the site.. there have been instances of cold solder joints (easily repaired by any do-it-yourselfer in an hour or less with a cheap soldering iron) on various Ford trucks with newer instrument clusters... seems the same lame wave soldering process was used to build these as the factory radios that keep failing. Much cheaper than a new cluster, and the fix is permanent.
