I've just been replacing the radiator support on my '94 f150 and decided to replace the front body mounts as well. Once I'd (eventually...) got the bolts/mounts out, I realised the brackets had hardly any metal left on the top face (where the mounts sit). There are no rust holes, but it's between 1mm and nothing across most of the top. The sides of the bracket seem OK.
Is there a minimum thickness it needs to be? If it needs some steel plate welded on top, can I get away with putting it back together to drive to a garage? (must put welding kit on Xmas list!)
I noticed on some of the posts that people are talking about 16 gauge (1.5mm?). This seems a lot less than what was originally there, considering the amount of rust that came off, so thought I'd check. Any thoughts much welcome!
