Had a little time to kill and was checking primary coil resistance. Manual says it should be between .8 to 1.6. I'm getting 1.7. Bad enough to change?? Runs fine.

No, do not change it. A little more is OK as wires inside the coil do not increase in resistance (only connections to the wires).
You need to be worried if it is less then .8 (or whatever it was when installed) as that would be a short.
The only sure way to test a coil (any coil) is to ring it and watch the oscillations (cycles) on an oscilloscope.
