My truck's rear main seal went out yesterday. I had just put two quarts of oil in her and started down the road. I got maybe one mile and I heard this loud ticking sound. I looked down at my gauage and it read ZERO oil pressure!! I pulled it over to the median and had it towed home. I bought a new rear seal and all. My question is, how in the world do I get the oil pan out and the main bearing caps loose. They're on there TIGHT! ANY advice would be greatly appreciated.

You've got alot of work ahead of you. Disconnect your motor mounts, transmission mount and crossmember. Remove your trans mount and let the back of the trans rest on the crossmember. Cut a 4x4 post with a "V" in the top to cradle the harmonic balancer. Place the post in a jack and raise the front of the motor as high as you can. Move the crossmember around to optimize your motor lift. Remove your oil pan. Remove rear main cap, use a 1/2" drive breaker bar. Carefully, push out the old two piece seal. One piece in the cap the other in the block. Do not cratch the crank or else! When reinserting the new seal insure that the back of the seal does not catch on the block and gouge or tear the seal. If it does, you can get it right on the second try. Make sure you retorque the rear main cap correctly. Reinstall everything, including a new oil pan gasket. I just realized,I hope you don't have a 4x4 or I just wasted my time.

Well...I got it out. Easier way with a 4x4 is to raise the front of the truck and put jack stands under the frame at the very front. Remove the tires and lower shock bolts. Lower the front axle all the way. PLENTY of room. Now...an update...I got the pan removed so far. I I removed the oil pump and lo-and-behold half of the oil pump drive shaft fell out. What happened was the oil pump locked up and spun the shaft in half causing the pump not to run. Thank God they're cheap. Now I just hope I can get a new shaft also. You guys know if Auto Zone or Advance Auto would have them?
