I put the first set of glow plugs in 11/04 at 225k miles. The mule has been real cranky about starting as of 360k miles, so I figured the Autolites had given up the ghost. 6 of the 8 Autolites were burned out. After I put them in, I well remember the ration of crap I got for using Autolites; they burn out & break off, everyone said.
Well, the Lord has blessed the old mule AGAIN!!! Seven plugs came out with no problem. The eighth, #3 hole, was bound up tighter'n a tick on a hound (for us Yankees, that's TIGHT). It took 1/2 hour of cajoling, tightening & loosening, dripping in Marvel Mystery oil around the threads, 1/8 turn at a time, to get it out, but it never broke. I noticed that it was the only plug with a dry barrel and it was blued 1/4 inch up the barrel; all other plugs were blued only on the narrow tip. I can only guess, but I"m thinking that I had a carbon buildup in that hole when I changed the plugs the first time.
This time, the new plugs are Bosch. And they were installed with antisieze on the end of the barrel and the thread. I'd sure like to see more than 150k miles out of this set.
Hence the user name... 244k miles in 21 months. That's about 140k/yr with 70% of that under load. Gonna be in the market for a rebuildable motor pretty quick; I'd like to get started rebuilding the mule's replacement heart.
