Trying to decide if i want to do a sas or not. Leaning strongly towards doing it now but one thing that holds me back is that my truck is an i6 and if im going to go to all that trouble and money maybe I should just get a different truck. How much would be involved in swaping a 351 into my truck later on donw the road if I decided too? I would assume the bell housing would be the same but how about the motor mounts and any wireing? I would assume a 460 swap would be an intense amount of work? Thanks for an thoughts.
theres a forum for this stuff, but ill humor you. the 300 6 is a great engine, lotsa low end torque for crawling, and all that good stuff. they can do ok in the mud, but dont have to high of a powerband for cleaning tires, but like i said, alot of people do really good with the i6. what year is the truck? carb or fi will make a big diff.
Sorry I always forget there are other forums. I found this place searching and it took me directly here and I saved it to favorites to go directly to the offroad forum. its a 95 injected of course. I know they have a lot of tourque but I want to be able to run 35's and still do a lot of street driving and pulling a 2000 pound trailor.
I'd find a 95 with a 460, and swap it. It is a lot of work, but I think it is worth it. The 300 is one of the best engines I'v ever seen. Lots of low end power, and they last a long, long time. My old man towed a boat for years with one. A 460 is a lot of engine, and a lot power, and a lot of gas. I get about 12 MPG. That sucks but I have all the power I need. Its the best mod I'v done so far. If you want to keep the 300, I'd regear the truck. 35"s and 4:11s, or 4:56 gears, It will tow pretty good and twist 35"s pretty good. Just my two cents, Jesse.
I'm running a mildly built carbed 300 (bored, cammed, carbed, headers, etc) in my 84 F150. I am running the 4 spd granny with 4.10s locked rear, LS front, and 33s. With the 4.10s I sometimes forget I am running 33s, I can light the tires up on dry pavement with ease in 2nd gear. The truck pulls really well and slings mud with the best of em. I think 4.56s would be the perfect match with 35s on your truck, and leave the six cylinder in there.
