I'm rebuilding a 302, but the block i'm using is a Mercury block, does have numbers on it, know of any site i can decode it at? The Ford/Mercury engine block is D2OE-AB, with E5AE-CA heads, if you have any information on this block or these heads, it would be very helpful.

Thanks
Dustin

Thank you, do you have any info on the combustion chamber size on the heads?

Thanks
Dustin

66 cc chambers 1.78 intake valves 1.45 exhaust valves.

This is not the proper forum for this question, the moderator will probably move it to the "Engine Forum".

The casting #'s on the heads is on the bottom of the head, you have to take it off to see it. The casting #'s for the block are on the side of the engine where the starter is, towards the back of the block, i think you have to take the starter off to see them. I know that on my 302's that everything was off so it was no big deal for me, here is a link that shows you where they are at.

Hope this helps you.
I was wondering, my 1972 302 is a "Mexico" block, did Mercury Marine engines just come off the same plant?

F1SE would be a '91, the second number you list looks like the date code which is the actual date the block was cast. 2 is for the year (since we already know the decade from the casting number = F is for the '90s) and L is for November. The last two are the day and it should indeed be a 1, so it's November 16 1992. Just right for a '93 model.

BTW, I've updated the links to some extent.

What would this be E7TE there is also a CA below it. I didn't look for the other #'s. This is another engine I have it's out off an Ex Trooper car or so I've been told.

The E7TE heads are truck heads that were used from 1987- 1996 I beleive on all trucks with EFI. Most have a combustion chamber of 64CC and use 1.78 Intake valves and 1.45 Exhaust valves.

Opps, sorry Wakojoe, its still an 87 casting. E=1980's 7=the year T=Truck E=Engine part. Not sure how many years Ford used that block for production, but thats not really important. The main thing is its a 87 block. My 91 Bronco has an E7TE-CA block with E7TE heads.

The best way to tell if its a Mexican Block is to look for the 2 humps in the front of the motor, one on each side towards the top right below where the heads attach.

And in the lifter galley there will be a "M" or "Hecho en Mexico" stamped in the middle of the galley.
