Slapped new wheels and tires on my 99 f-150 4x4 all excited went out for a spin. Get goin notice power lose and rough idle. Go to Advance auto hook comp to it misfire on cylinder 4. I buy spark plugs figure i'd replace them. Well i got to looking and i believe its just a little more than i want to get into. I figured maybe some of you guys could give me a approx. cost taking the truck somewhere for the plugs.
The dealer will likely set you back around 500 bucks for new plugs and wires. Thats why I suggest you tackle it. Its really not as bad as you think but expect a little skin off the knuckles and about 2-2.5 hours the first time - also be REAL CAREFUL when removing and installing them not to strip out the threads or overtorque the plugs because the aluminum heads have been known to blow out plugs that were overtightened. Check this forum for great detailed directions from racerguy on how to do this - I think its "stickied at the top of the forum. I thought it was a huge task but its really not bad. Don't forget the anti-seize either! Good luck! Speaking of pain in the but "simple" maint. issues... (that the dealer charges an arm and a leg for) a couple of my dash lights just burned out again. My dealer charged me 100 bucks to change them once - I did it the next time for about 5 bucks (cost of all the bulbs) and just under an hour of my time.. Like I said - some of these things take some time or are a pain in the butt to do - but it sure beats the labor cost of getting it done elsewhere! Plus you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

How much are you looking to spend on a COP/a piece! Im looking at replacing my plugs etc, COPs, might as well do it all at once...or should someone not worry about replacing the COPs? Ive got 80K gettin close to tune up time, and kinda worrying about the plug blowout issue! But whats the price on a COP?
As long as you use anti seize on the plug threads and carefully thread them without overtightening them you shouldn't have to be too worried. Use a peice of fuel tubing on the spark plug to drop it down in the hole and get it threaded first (Don't use a socket!) this will ensure that it gets threaded on straight first.
