A/C burning smell

I just recently bought an '01 Sport Trac and I'm having a little problem. Sometimes when I first turn the selecctor switch to A/C I smell a rubber/plastic burning smell that lasts from a few seconds to a minute and then goes away. It only does this when the a/c is first turned on. It does not do this whith the heat or just the vent. I have checked the engine compartment when it does this and there is no smell on the outside. As a matter of fact the smell is stronger with the air set to recirculate. A parts guy from the Ford dealership said it could be the blend door actuator making the burning smell if it is going out. I do know the door does move because it switches from hot to cold. Any suggestions? Thanks.

That is a new one on me. If it is the actuator going, I wouldn't expect it to last long if you can smell it. Usually they'll burn up and then that's it. Makes me wonder what the history of the vehicle is.
